Gold at the Berliner Wine Trophy 2016

Major success for Henkell at the spring tasting of the Berliner Wine Trophy 2016. Henkell Trocken, Henkell Brut, Henkell Halbtrocken and Henkell Rosé were also awarded gold medals.



2015
Henkell Blanc de Blancs White Edition

The luxury, limited White Edition of Henkell Blanc de Blancs has been drawing admiring glances on the sparkling wine shelves since October 2015. Only limited quantities of the fine, pearly, fruity, sparkling Blanc de Blancs variety are available in the trendy, high-quality, coated white bottle.

Launch of Henkell Alcohol-Free

Another highlight has been added to the Henkell range. Henkell Alcohol-Free, a sparkling, alcohol-free alternative that offers an unlimited taste experience, has been on the market since April 2015.

One billion bottles of Henkell

Cause for celebration! Sparkling wine lovers from all over the world have already reached for Henkell a billion times. One thousand million bottles sold - this anniversary is the culmination of a success story that began in 1856.

Modern extensions of the product range are shaping the current millennium. With new creations taking in current sparkling wine trends, the brand is always keeping up with the times.

However, Henkell presents itself in an entirely new design in 2014: A new and expressive image gives the entire Henkell product line a fresh and modern look.

HENKELL MEETS OLYMPIA

Henkell was the official sparkling wine for the winners at the German residence at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver and at the 2012 London Games.
Moreover, at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014, Henkell was again the sparkling wine with which the German medallists were honoured and celebrated.



2009
RECORDS

According to a GFK study from January 2009, Henkell Trocken is the most famous sparkling wine in Germany. And what is more: In 2009, sparkling wine manufactured by Henkell was sold in more than 70 countries worldwide – more than 13.2 million bottles.

As a result, Henkell is the most exported German sparkling wine. These are figures promising a strong future for sparkling wine manufactured by Henkell.

The parent company Henkellsfeld celebrated its 100th anniversary on 27th November 2009.

Henkell & Co. celebrated the 175th anniversary of its winery.

As a tribute to the company’s founder, Adam Henkell, the premium brand Adam Henkell is launched at specialist retailers and in gastronomy.

A NEW BEGINNING

Otto Henkell II, who took the helm in 1945, was not only able to revive the company but also established the Henkell brand as a generic term for German sparkling wine.

A NEW TRADEMARK

The “Gentleman in Black” becomes the trademark and symbol of Henkell Trocken.



1935
PICCOLO – THE SMALL HENKELL BOTTLE

Since 1935, the term “Piccolo” has been protected for the small Henkell bottles. The ambitious young waiter became the dominant advertising character for Henkell Trocken Piccolo and also provided the name for the successful 0.2 litre bottle. The love of sparkling wine - even though money was tight - led to a true Piccolo boom in the 1950s and 60s.

Piccolo became a generic term for this small bottle size for sparkling wine – however, only Henkell can use it as a brand name.



1907-1909
NEW CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS

Henkell expanded on a large scale – and, as a result, a bigger site was planned quickly. The young architect Paul Bonatz built a state-of-the-art sparkling wine winery in a classicist style for Otto Henkell. The corporate headquarters moved from Mainz to Biebrich on the Rhine.

EARLY ADVERTISEMENT

Henkell pursued a consistent brand policy with an “advertising budget” of 100,000 Marks.

Henkell & Co. is the market leader on the sparkling wine market in Germany and abroad.

TRADEMARK REGISTRATION

The Henkell Trocken trademark is entered in the trademark register.

THE FIRST ADVERTISEMENT FOR HENKELL TROCKEN

Otto Henkell’s knowledge of the importance of branded items (which he acquired abroad) led to the creation of Henkell Trocken and the beginning of advertising of Henkell Trocken.



1856
THE FIRST HENKELL SPARKLING WINE

In 1856, Adam Henkell launched the production of sparkling wine. His grandson Otto (1869-1929) achieved the breakthrough on the national and international market with the first branded sparkling wine – Henkell Trocken – at the end of the 19th century.



1832
THE BEGINNING

Our success story began with a wine lover: Adam Henkell (1801-1866), the founder of what is today Henkell & Co. Sektkellerei KG, opened a wine store in Mainz in 1832.
