2021

HENKELL VEGAN

In February 2021, the elegant variety of sparkling wines from Germany's most exported sparkling wine brand will welcome spring with the V-label. This means that all Henkell varieties are now officially vegan-certified and recognisable at first glance. With the help of the internationally recognised and protected claim for vegan and vegetarian products, the global brand is thus providing even more clarity and transparency when it comes to sparkling wine.

EXPANSION OF THE PICCOLO RANGE

The only true Piccolo since 1935 - Henkell is the inventor of the Piccolo. That's why the Henkell Piccolo Blanc de Blancs and Rosé varieties have been expanding the Piccolo range in the German market since spring 2020 and underline Henkell's Piccolo expertise.

2019

FLAVOUR ADVANTAGE HENKELL NON-ALCOHOLIC

Henkell's alcohol-free sparkling wine is exceptionally good - 70% of test subjects rated the 2019 alcohol-free sparkling wine as this or "very good" in a sensory test. This puts Henkell alcohol-free sparkling wine significantly above the competition.

50s

A HUGE SUCCESS IN A SMALL BOTTLE

Henkell Trocken Piccolo is introduced to a broad group of consumers.

1945

A NEW BEGINNING

Otto Henkell II, who took the helm in 1945, was not only able to revive the company but also established the Henkell brand as a generic term for German sparkling wine.

1936

A NEW TRADEMARK

The “Gentleman in Black” becomes the trademark and symbol of Henkell Trocken.

1935

PICCOLO – THE SMALL HENKELL BOTTLE

Since 1935, the term “Piccolo” has been protected for the small Henkell bottles. The ambitious young waiter became the dominant advertising character for Henkell Trocken Piccolo and also provided the name for the successful 0.2 litre bottle. The love of sparkling wine - even though money was tight - led to a true Piccolo boom in the 1950s and 60s.

Since forever, customers associate the term “Piccolo” with our small sparkling wine bottle. However, the term may only be used as a brand name by Henkell.

1907-1909

NEW CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS

Henkell expanded on a large scale – and, as a result, a bigger site was planned quickly. The young architect Paul Bonatz built a state-of-the-art sparkling wine winery in a classicist style for Otto Henkell. The corporate headquarters moved from Mainz to Biebrich on the Rhine.

1904

EARLY ADVERTISEMENT

Henkell pursued a consistent brand policy with an “advertising budget” of 100,000 Marks.

1903

SUCCESSFUL GROWTH

Henkell & Co. is the market leader on the sparkling wine market in Germany and abroad.

1898

TRADEMARK REGISTRATION

The Henkell Trocken trademark is entered in the trademark register.

1894

THE FIRST ADVERTISEMENT FOR HENKELL TROCKEN

Otto Henkell’s knowledge of the importance of branded items (which he acquired abroad) led to the creation of Henkell Trocken and the beginning of advertising of Henkell Trocken.

1856

THE FIRST HENKELL SPARKLING WINE

In 1856, Adam Henkell launched the production of sparkling wine. His grandson Otto (1869-1929) achieved the breakthrough on the national and international market with the first branded sparkling wine – Henkell Trocken – at the end of the 19th century.

1832

THE BEGINNING

Our success story began with a wine lover: Adam Henkell (1801-1866), the founder of what is today Henkell & Co Sektkellerei KG, opened a wine store in Mainz in 1832.
